Climate Change is Real - Website News
Hello there and welcome to this brand new website.
The two balls on either side of the text are seed pods from a small Australian native tree - probably one of the 170 species of Banksia. The left hand one is from a tree that escaped the Morton Bushfire whilst the right hand one was partially burnt and was on a nearby tree. They are about 25mm (1 inch) in diameter. Perhaps they can represent a healthy planet and the world as it might become if the global community does not heed the Climate Change crisis.
The fact that these two pods were only a few metres apart is a demonstration that events such as bushfires and the current Covid-19 can impact at random. It is expected that overall Climate Change events will have isolated local impacts but these will become more frequent, more severe, more widespread and affect remote dependent communities. The cummulative effect may well be a very sad planet.
In the centre of the header is an image of a back-burning operation on the night of January 24 2020 in an effort to save a town in the Southern Highlands of NSW. This fire started in late November 2019 and travelled more than 100 kms before being halted. It was declared "out" some 74 days after it started when heavy rains came to the rescue.
Underneath the fire image is a picture of an iceberg (courtesy of Jonatan Pie on Unsplash) and is included because the current world wide situation is considered to be just the tip of the iceberg - with the bulk of the iceberg not visible. A "Titanic" moment in time.
